Information On Multifocal Toric Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are available today to correct nearly any vision problem. And colored contact lenses can serve two functions: improving vision and improving or altering eye color. Colored multifocal contact lenses are one such type of contact lens. Having the color option can really make wearing contacts less of a chore and more of a personal statement.

Colored multifocal contact lenses come in a range of styles, both from a technical standpoint as far as how they are divided for the different correctives, and from an artistic standpoint as to how they color your eyes.

Vision Correction

There are a few different ways that multifocal contact lenses achieve this multifocal, or bifocal, design. Three ways include alternating, simultaneous, and concentric.

Alternating lenses split the colored multifocal contact lenses in half so that the top part covers distance and the bottom part covers nearsightedness. They're basically designed like standard bifocal glasses so you have to look down to read and up to see far away.

Simultaneous bifocal lenses have the distance and nearsighted corrective pieces close to the center of the lens. This design doesn't require as much drastic eye movement to shift from one to the other.

Concentric lenses are similar to bifocals except for the placement of each corrective. Distance skims the perimeter of the lens, while the near corrective is close to the center.

How you choose what style of colored multifocal contact lenses depends on what you feel the most comfortable using. If this is new territory for you, ask your eye doctor for samples and do trial runs with each to see what works the best for you. If it's new, whichever you choose will probably take some time to get used to.

Color Correction

Just like there are different varieties of multifocals, there are also different color options for multifocal contact lenses. Two prime styles of color lenses are enhancement and opaque lenses.

Enhancement colored multifocal contact lenses does just that -- enhance. They build on your natural eye color, making it richer than it is naturally. These colored lenses are perfect for a natural appearance.

If you want more than natural, go with opaque multifocal contact lenses. These cover over your natural eye color, altering it completely sometimes. If you want a whole new eye color, choose opaque lenses.

If you have astigmatism, you have options there too. Multifocal toric contact lenses meet several needs as do contact lenses colored astigmatism. Having more than one vision challenge does not mean you're reduced to no contact lenses or several pairs of glasses. Colored contact lenses along with these other options can help to meet all your corrective vision needs.

You also have brand choices. Brands such as Frequency 55 and purevision carry multifocal contact lenses. You can find many such brands online to compare prices and save some money in the process. Not to mention time running out to pick things up.

Whatever you choose for styles of multifocals and color options, colored multifocal contact lenses can both correct your vision and give you a brand new pair of peepers.
